Shelby Hine, Artist
Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Shelby moved to the U.S. in 1998 with her husband and three children. Always inspired to tell a story using color and texture, both in an earlier career as an interior decorative artist and through her glass work, the emotions of everyday life moments often initiate Shelby’s creative process.
Experiencing glass as an artist was an instant love affair for Shelby. Exploring its flexibility for expression, while also pushing the limits of its inherent restrictions, is always exciting and thought provoking - quite literally the stuff that dreams are made of. Working with glass, Shelby is often reminded that, as in life, taking too much for granted can be unforgiving.
As a glass artist, Shelby has traveled around the U.S., studying in some of the country’s most renowned glass studios with top glass artists from around the world. Shelby Hine operates her working studio in Madeira, OH as well as a viewing studio space at Pendleton Art Center in Cincinnati, OH where her work can be found in studio 400D.
Design Studio
My inspiration for creating is to capture the beauty and uniqueness within each piece of glass art that I fire in the kiln.
My hope is that they will bring you and your space a measure of calm, and, ideally, bring a smile to your face every time you see it.
